In an ongoing effort to support the Financial Women’s Association’s continued focus on the BRIC countries – Brazil, Russia, India and China -- we are pleased to announce an interactive discussion on the Brazilian marketplace. The financial market in Brazil is very competitive. To date, Brazilian banks have been the leaders in consumer, private banking and asset management sectors, with international banks such as Credit Suisse dominating the investment banking marketplace.
Brazil has achieved unprecedented economic and political development in the past five years, and as a result has been upgraded to investment grade status by Moody’s and S&P in May 2008. Brazil is one of the key markets in asset management and global capital markets today.
Credit Suisse is a leader in the Brazilian capital markets and will host a panel of distinguished market participants courtesy of Credit Suisse. The panel will discuss the economic outlook and the impact of the US credit market on Brazil’s markets as well as key trends in the debt and equity capital markets.
PanelistsJamie Nicholson-Leener: The panel will be moderated by Jamie Nicholson-Leener, Managing Director of Credit Suisse and Head of Latin Corporate Credit Research within the Investment Banking division, based in New York. Ms. Nicholson joined Credit Suisse First Boston in November 2000 when the Firm merged with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, where she was a Senior Vice President covering Latin American corporate credits in DLJ's High Yield Research Group. Prior to DLJ, Ms. Nicholson worked at UBS Warburg as a Director in Latin American Equity Research. Prior to that, she was a Director at Merrill Lynch in the Latin American Investment Banking Group. Ms. Nicholson worked at Lehman Brothers from 1986 to 1994. Ms. Nicholson obtained her BA in Economics and Philosophy from Yale University in 1981 and her MBA from Harvard Business School in 1986. Ms. Nicholson was named to Institutional Investor's All America First Team for Emerging Markets Credits for 2002 and Third Team for 2003 to 2005.
Jeffrey Bunzel: Jeffrey Bunzel will be providing the equity capital markets perspective. Mr. Bunzel is a Managing Director of Credit Suisse, Head of Equity Capital Markets for the Americas and Co-Head of the Global Markets Solutions Group for the Americas, based in New York. He has had responsibility for many of the Bank's major equity transactions across various industry sectors and works extensively with a number of the Bank's private equity clients. He is Chairman of the Equity Valuation Committee and a member of the Investment Banking Committee. Mr. Bunzel joined CS First Boston in 1994 from Lehman Brothers. From 1989 to 1992, Mr. Bunzel served as special assistant to the Under Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Treasury Department. Mr. Bunzel received his B.A. from the University at California, Berkeley and his Master's Degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Susan Romo: Susan Romo will be providing the debt capital markets perspective. Ms. Romo is a Managing Director of Credit Suisse in the Debt Capital Markets departments within the Investment Banking division, based in New York. She is responsible for advising clients in Latin America on a variety of structured finance products, including structured debt, future flow and asset backed securitization transactions. Ms. Romo joined Credit Suisse First Boston in March 2000 from Prudential Securities where she was a Vice President in the Asset Backed Securitization team. Ms. Romo holds a Master's degree in Finance from New York University.
Carola Sandy will be providing an economic overview of Brazil.
Ms. Sandy is a Director in Credit Suisse's Emerging Markets Economics Research group. She is responsible for the economic and political analysis of Argentina, Colombia and Peru. Before joining the Firm in March 2000, she held teaching positions in the Department of Economics of Columbia University and was a consultant to the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. Ms. Sandy has a PhD in Economics from Columbia University and BA in Economics and Mathematics from Macalester College.
