If you have a few hours to spare on a weekend, then Financial Backpack is the right program for you. Volunteer to teach New York City high school students about financial literacy and the keys to a successful financial future.
Volunteers are supported in the classroom by members of the faculty and graduate students. No prior teaching experience is required, but volunteers should be familiar with the basic principles of financial management.
Backpack programs are now scheduled to run on the following Saturdays from 8:30-4:00:
Week 1: March 4 at Hunter College High School, 71 East 94th Street
Week 2: March 11 at Martin Luther King HS, 122 Amsterdam Avenue at 67th Street
Week 3: April 22 at the SIBL Library, 188 Madison Avenue at 34th Street
In addition, an opportunity to lead a class at Baruch College is available. It’s on March 28 from 12 to 2 pm. Volunteers will help with a presentation to the Baruch College-Rising Star program and facilitate a case study exercise.
You may choose to participate in one or more of these events. New volunteer? Don’t worry: A volunteer training session will be offered the week of February 27.
