Tomorrow the world will celebrate International Women’s Day by acknowledging the social, economic, cultural and political achievements and outstanding work of women. #Balanceforbetter is the theme for 2019 according to internationalwomensday.com and it calls for building a gender-balanced world by making boardrooms, government, media coverage, employees, wealth, and sports more gender-balanced. Although International Women’s Day has been celebrated since the early 1900s and much progress has been made since then, the problem of gender inequality still persists.
Each year, organizations like the FWA, undertake, endeavors to celebrate International Women’s Day. This year, the FWA and OppenheimerFunds will host a 4th annual event at the National Museum of Mathematics on Friday, March 8, 2018. This event will bring together FWA members, mentees, and the general public for a historical presentation and a private tour of the museum.
You can help women progress towards greater gender equality starting today by volunteering your time to mentor a student in our high school and college mentoring programs. Mentoring a student can be empowering for both parties. You can inspire and reinforce a young woman in need of guidance. To learn more about mentoring, click here.
