Carina Castagna, MPA, Founder, Pesto Joe
Carina Castagna, a proud two-time Seton Hall University alumna ('21 & '22), exemplifies the spirit of determination and innovation. As a first-generation student, she embraced the multifaceted world of academia, earning a B.A. with a major in Communications, a double major in Catholic Studies, and a Business Certificate. Her academic journey didn't pause even amidst the global challenge of COVID-19; instead, she earned an M.P.A. with a focus on nonprofit management.
In 2022, Carina channeled her entrepreneurial spirit, fueled by the loss of her father, into founding Pesto Joe LLC. This venture, born from the Pirate Accelerator program under the guidance of Susan Scherreik (Director of Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship), is more than a business—it's a tribute to her father Joseph, bringing families together with the rich flavors of authentic Italian pesto. Her inspiring story has been featured on News 12 and in the Seton Hall Magazine.
Her resilience and ability to transform adversity into opportunity illuminate her path - poetically embodying the Universities motto, Hazard Zet Forward. Carina's deep-rooted pirate pride, a legacy passed down from her grandfather, a 1953 SHU graduate, fuels her ongoing engagement with the university. She is a familiar face on campus, sharing her insights with students, supporting events, and fervently supporting the Pirates' basketball team.
Carina's dedication to Seton Hall continues through her active roles on the Young Alumni Council, the Buccino Institute Advisory Council, and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Board, where she helps shape the future of SHU and its community. Her story is not just one of personal triumph but also of enduring commitment to her roots and the shared success of the Seton Hall family.
